A Gardener’s Christmas Wish List

Are you in search of a great gift for your gardener? Or, are you the gardener and need a subtle way to give your loved one some ideas? Either way, here are a few great suggestions to put under the tree this Christmas.

The The Vegetable Gardener’s Bible is a resource I use every year in my garden planning. It’s a helpful guide for knowing which plants grow well together, what to do about pests, and even tips on getting started.

If your gardener doesn’t have a garden journal, it’s a must for this year’s gift giving! I suggest a graph paper notebook – a water resistant cover is a bonus. It’s so helpful to draw out the garden and take notes each year to know what worked and what didn’t. I’ve looked for something larger than the standard 8.5″ x 11″ and haven’t had any luck yet. Amazon has a Five Star graph ruled notebook for under $10.00.

On my list this year (hint hint hubby) is the Felco F-2 Classic Manual Hand Pruner for end-of-the-season garden clean-up. I wish I had these when I pruned the raspberries this fall! The blades are made with hardened steel and come with a lifetime guarantee. Along with the pruner is a Felco holster for pruning shears. I’m notorious for putting the pruners down and later having to spend 20 minutes searching for them. Also on my list this year is a sharpening tool to keep those pruners like new.

Lastly, there’s nothing like the gift of time and a genuine interest in helping out in the garden. Maybe you remember the coupon books your kids would make for you? The one that offers coupons like “clean my room without complaining” or “wash the dishes after dinner”. You can make one for your gardener with coupons like “weed ALL of the garden beds,” “get up early to water the garden for one week, without complaining,” or “make you a delicious dinner using garden-grown ingredients.” Honestly, this just may be the best gift of a season!

Happy Holidays!
